John Thompson gets one for Segenhoe Stud

Randwick trainer John Thompson recorded his first victory for prominent breeder Segenhoe Stud when Glenbawn Dame took out Wednesday's Pro-Ride Handicap at Warwick Farm.

Thompson was appointed head trainer of Patinack Farm in 2009 enjoying Group I victories courtesy of Nechita in the Coolmore Stud Stakes and Pear Tart in the Tatt's Tiara.

He originally only saddled up horses exclusively for Nathan Tinkler at Patinack Farm before taking on some outside clients.

"It's great to be given the opportunity to train horses for an establishment like Segenhoe," Thompson said.

"They're a fantastic organisation to deal with and I'm really glad to get a win with this girl."

The trainer admitted he's got no lofty ambitions for the daughter of Shamadarl preferring instead "to place her where she can win".

"I think finding more races that she can win is the key to her," he said.

"She's proven she can handle a bit of chop in the ground."

Glenbawn Dame ($9) defeated the Peter Snowden-tarined Meridian ($31) with the Guy Walter-trained Alberton Waltz finishing third after being heavily supported into $2.10.
