Magic Millions the plan for Centre Pivot

Magic Millions the plan for Centre Pivot

Emerging young Sydney trainer Sam Kavanagh has an ambitious plan for today's ultra-impressive Canterbury winner, Centre Pivot.

"We've had the Magic Millions Stayers Cup on our mind for a while, but I would have thought he'd have won a race by now," Kavanagh said after the horse scored a five-length win in the Drummond Golf Handicap (1550m).

"We'll go back to a stayers' race now and see what happens," Kavanagh added.

The $300,000 Magic Millions Stayers Cup is run on Magic Millions day on the Gold Coast on January 10, so Kavanagh still has almost six weeks to get Centre Pivot there for that race.

Winning rider Blake Shinn left no doubt as to the horse running well in a race like that.

"I know Sam has some ambitious plans for this horse ending in the Magic Millions Stayers race and the way he felt today he will be a super chance in a race like that," Shinn said.

"He got the right run but I was super impressed with the way he let down when I asked him to go," Shinn added.

Centre Pivot ($2.50 eq fav) beat Roman Desire ($15) by five lengths, with a length and a half away to The Explorer ($26) in third place.

Shinn said he was forced to go for Centre Pivot in the straight to keep his mind on the job.

"He's a nice horse but you've got to teach them how to win," he said.
