Segenhoe Thoroughbreds ended the season on a positive note with a metropolitan success at Warwick Farm on Wednesday for blue-blooded Encosta de Lago filly Martilago.
Resuming from a spell, the Ron Quinton trained three year-old did best in a tight finish to win the restricted event over 1400 metres by a neck as favourite.
Martilago had form around the likes of stakes class fillies Shamalia and Forever Loved last campaign and had been in work since May, so was primed for success.
It was the third win from eight starts for Martilago, who was a $325,000 NZB Premier purchase for Segenhoe Thoroughbreds from the draft of Belvedere Farm.
Martilago is one of two winners from the Danehill (USA) stakes-winner Martique, a daughter of multiple Group I winner Champagne, the full brother to New Zealand Derby winner St Reims.
As a daughter of champion sire Encosta de Lago from such a fine female family, Martilago will be a valuable addition to the Segenhoe broodmare band in due course.
