Yearling & Sales Preparation

Yearling preparation is the life blood of our operation and with achievements resonating through our graduates globally, the strength of our foundations are paramount to our success.

Dedication, time, energy, knowledge and experience are all vital aspects of raising athletes. Yearling preparation officially begins for the first major sale of the year, Magic Millions, in early November but starts much earlier than that. From weaning through to the moment they walk into the barn there is constant monitoring of feet, conformation, soundness, condition and above all, health and well-being.

Our yearlings receive the upmost attention and care. Our dedicated and experienced team who deal with the day-to-day handling of all yearlings have given way to many highlights in the sales ring and afterwards on the track.

Segenhoe’s staff do an excellent job in preparing our yearling drafts for sale and our tailored feed and exercise regime, assessed weekly, allow the yearlings to be at their physical and mental peak from inspection time to sale. As reward for these efforts, Segenhoe has been in the Top 4 Leading Vendors at the prestigious Easter Yearling sale for the last 5 years with top priced yearlings including full brother to Merchant Navy, sold for $2.3m, half brother to Winx for a sale topping $2.3m in 2016.

Our graduates are our proudest achievement and successes can be seen from the country meets throughout the nation, to global success in Hong Kong and Royal Ascot.

Our dedicated yearling crew spend many hours on the educational processes needed to obtain the best result for your yearling at sale time by presenting them to potential buyers in the best possible condition.

Prior to sales, there are weeks of grooming, hand walking, parade practice, standing practice, bathing, feed and reviewing all with the aim of getting your yearling the best possible home, to reach their potential. Yearlings need to be well presented but must also possess the mental aptitude to parade effectively, stand correctly and learn to cope in a stable environment.

Segenhoe do all that we can to promote each horse in the lead-up to the sale, advertising our drafts extensively through social media platforms with photos and videos, as well as promoting on farm parades for potential purchasers, clients and trainers to inspect our bloodstock.

Although yearling sale preparation at Segenhoe is important to us, the preparation of weanlings, broodmares and racing stock for sales is just as imperative. We attend the Inglis Broodmare & Weanling Sale and Magic Million National Weanling & Broodmare sales each year and are more than happy to cater to clients’ needs and expectations.
