1/2 Sister for Winx on her 20th Straight Victory!

John Camilleri continues to be amazed by his prized broodmare Vegas Showgirl, who seems to have a sense of timing every time she gives birth to another foal.

The mother of Winx waited until after her famous daughter won her 13th group 1 race, Saturday’s George Main Stakes, to produce the latest member of the family – an Exceed And Excel filly.

“We knew she was getting close but like last year when the foal came on the day of Winx’s Warwick Stakes, she waited until after another win, this time a group 1,” Camilleri said.

“It is a million-to-one chance that would happen. It was great to get another filly because I want to keep the family, so I will be keeping this one.

Camilleri also kept a Snitzel filly from Vegas Showgirl last season. Vegas Showgirl’s last yearling to go through the sale ring was a Snitzel colt, which topped the 2016 Inglis Easter Sale bringing $2.3 million and is in the stable of Gai Waterhouse and Adrian Bott.

Camilleri and his breeding adviser Peter O’Brien will sit down in the coming weeks to decide the next mating for Vegas Showgirl.

“There is a chance we could go to Europe to a stallion that we can’t get to here in Australia, like Dubawi, Galileo or Frankel,” Camilleri said. “I will talk it over with Peter and come up with a decision. But if she goes to Europe the mating would be northern [hemisphere] time.”
