A Magic Wednesday For Segenhoe

It was a Wednesday full of winners for Segenhoe today with three farm related 2016 Magic Millions graduates saluting in fantastic fashion at Canterbury and Doomben.

Previously with Gai Waterhouse and Adrian Bott, but now with Brad Widdup, We Have Lift Off (Exceed And Excel x Houston Benefactor) was the first winner of the day showing plenty of her two year old ability when travelling smoothly and kicking away to win the 1100 metre maiden by three-quarters of a length.

“I was delighted when Adam (Watt) decided to give her to us and she’s obviously a talented filly,” said Brad Widdup.

While the filly is Magic Millions eligible, the big $10 million raceday at the Gold Coast in January is not really on the radar.

“There’s always next year, there’s no rush for that,”Widdup said.

A $170,000 Magic Millions purchase from the Segenhoe Stud draft, We Have Lift Off (Pictured above) is the first winner for stakes-placed Encosta de Lago mare Houston Benefactor, a sister to Group II winner Sovereign Nation and three-quarter sister-in-blood to Champion 3YO Filly Princess Coup.

Segenhoe Stud will offer a Snitzel yearling filly from Houston Benefactor at Inglis Easter next year.

Second winner for the day, was promising three year-old, Cruze, who scored with authority in Doomben and has stakes goals on the horizon.

Prepared by Barry Lockwood, the talented gelding was a last start fourth to another star Pierro performer Pierata in the $100,000 BRC Winning Rupert Plate on December 2 when resuming from a spell.

That good showing saw him start favourite in the Benchmark 65 event over 1350 metres and he duly won in good style by a length and a half.

“He’s a horse that will ultimately get over more ground, so it was a good effort,” said Barry Lockwood, who is looking towards the rich Magic Millions raceday next month.

“If he gets a run we’ll go to the Vo Rogue (Group III December 30) and then if he has enough money the Magic Millions 3YO Guineas.”

A $50,000 Magic Millions purchase for Storm Creek from the Segenhoe Stud draft, Cruze was bred by Fairway Thoroughbreds and has won two of four starts.

He is the first winner for Alessandra, a Fastnet Rock three-quarter sister to Group I BRC Queensland Derby winner Dariana from a family that features far too many European Group I winners to name them all!

Segenhoe graduates had a great day on the track, capping off the day with an all the way win in the last race in Doomben for I Am Impinge, who is part-owned by Segenhoe.

Segenhoe Stud will start the 2018 sales season offering 19 yearlings at Magic Millions.
