Back to back victories for Total Response

Having won last time out over 1560m at Arawa Park, the Segenhoe Stud-raced Kheleyf filly Total Response headed to Ellerslie to contest the Eagle Magic Fishing Charters Mile (1600m) on Saturday, November 30.

Jumping from a wide barrier, the Michael Moroney and Chad Ormsby-trained runner was pulled back towards the rear of the filed where she settled with only three runners behind her.

With a solid tempo early on, Total Response drifted back to second last position and looked to be in need of a lot of luck as the field headed for home.

Darting back towards the rail, the filly came through the field and with hands and heels riding from apprentice Michael Dee, Total Response dived through to record a half-length victory over Sing For The Sun.

With two wins and a third place from seven starts, the filly has already proven herself at stakes level finishing third in the Listed Wentwood Grange Stakes at Te Rapa as a two-year-old and looks to be capable of delivering further.

“I believe there is a lot of improvement in her and I think she is good enough to be set for the Group Two Royal Stakes at Ellerslie on New Year’s Day” Chad Ormbsy.

Purchased from the 2012 New Zealand Select Yearling Sale for $65,000 by Paul Moroney, Total Response is out of the Sadler’s Wells mare Incommunicado, a sister to the dam of Group Two-winning, Group One placed Irresistible Jewel and the Listed winner Diamond Trim. She is a half-sister to the dam of Group Three Winter Cup winner Art Beat and the stakes placed Smartly and Perfect Start.
