Breakfast In Bed to continue Edmonds success
Trainer Toby Edmonds is hopeful of continuing his golden run with the power Segenhoe Stud when Breakfast In Bed tackles the Listed Nudgee Quality Handicap at Doomben on Saturday.
The 1200-metre feature, which has attracted a field of 12 acceptors, was added to the Doomben program after last Saturday’s Doomben meeting was washed out.
Edmonds has won 24 races in the past 12 months for Segenhoe Stud which has been one of the country’s leading breeding establishments for decades.
Breakfast In Bed made her stable debut for Edmonds when runner-up to Tarloshan in the Listed Just Now Quality (1200m) at Doomben on December 13.
The five-year-old daughter of Hussonet then beat Endless Shadow on a soft track over 1400 metres on her home track at the Gold Coast on December 27.
Both Tarloshan and Endless Shadow have since franked the form.
Tarloshan subsequently won the Listed Summer Cup at Caloundra on Monday while Endless Shadow claimed the Magic Millions Fillies & Mares Quality at the Gold Coast on January 10.
Breakfast In Bed was sent north in search of Black-Type by her previous trainer David Vandyke after recording six wins and as many placings in Sydney.
“David brought her up here for a Listed race a few months ago but she went bad so he left her here with me,” Edmonds said.
“She hasn’t raced for a month now after last week’s washout and the extra week off shouldn’t bother her.”
Edmonds has booked Jim Byrne to partner Breakfast In Bed, replacing apprentice Matt McGuren who was successful on the mare at the Gold Coast.
However, Byrne is no newcomer having ridden her to victory in the Just Now Quality.
Despite an awkward barrier 10, Edmonds is hopeful of another strong performance before giving her a let-up ahead of a likely winter campaign.
“She’ll probably have a let-up after this race. She goes well in the wet so we’ll have a throw at the stumps in the winter before she heads off to stud next season,” he said.
