Group Three victory for Whistling Dixie

Stakes placed at her final run of her two-year-old season, Whistling Dixie, the now three-year-old daughter of Pins has taken a few runs this time in to produce the goods, but she did on Saturday in fie style at Awapuni, New Zealand, claiming the Group Three Eulogy Stakes over 1600m.

Ridden by Aimee Taylor, Whistling Dixie was able to find a good position in behind the leaders with cover by the end of the back straight. The pair hit the front halfway down the straight and had to hold off the fast finish of Miss Selby to hang on to win by a long head.

Trained by Graeme and Debbie Rogerson trained three-year-old filly has now had eight starts, and although she was only recording her second victory, she has been in the top two on five occasions.

“Debbie bought her for Segenhoe Stud, they are very excited and we are looking forward to the Eight Carat Stakes now,” stated Graeme Rogerson.

“She is a nice filly that is maturing all the time, a lovely big filly too. She will go on now to the Eight Carat Stakes and Royal Stakes and follow the Filly of the Year Series onto Te Rapa and the Oaks.

“Her go will be if she stays the Oaks trip and the other fillies don’t get the mile-and-a-quarter. We have been waiting for these fillies races to start stepping up over more ground and that’s what we have been aiming for.”

Bred by Garry Chittick of Waikato Stud, Whistling Dixie is a daughter of unraced Danasinga mare Zephyr Song, a daughter of Group One-winning mare Zepherin and is also a half-sister to the Group One performer Glenview, who is in turn the dam of the Group One South African Derby winner Timber Trader.

A family that includes the likes of Zazzman, a Group Two winner who finished third in the Group One Melbourne Cup, Whistling Dixie will make a lovely mare for Segenhoe Stud’s impressive broodmare band once she retired from racing.
