Lesley’s Choice may get one final crack before venturing to breeding barn

Lesley’s Choice dashes clear of her rivals to win at Doomben. Lesley’s Choice made it three wins from her last four starts, scraping home in the best Class Six Plate seen in Brisbane in many years as she somehow fended off the late challenge of Pinch River.

Most onlookers thought Pinch River would get the nod in the photo finish, but veteran jockey Jeff Lloyd got the nose of Lesley’s Choice down at precisely the right time.

Trainer Edmonds thought rival galloper Pinch River would get the verdict, however Lloyd’s initial feeling was his mare had just done enough.

Lesley’s Choice just seems to keep getting better but her fighting win may be the last we see of her on a racetrack.

‘’She will probably head off to Stud, although I will try to convince Segenhoe to give her another run,’’ Edmonds said.

‘’Winning form is good form and they are a long time retired.

‘’I always knew this mare had ability but for a while there she was struggling to win Class 3 races.

‘’So I took my time with her and she has been absolutely flying in her recent runs.

‘’She has been a pleasure to train, a lovely horse around the stables, so I am so pleased she put her head down and got the photo.’’

Lesley’s Choice beat a competitive field of quality gallopers, including the likes of Le Val, Teronado, Denarius and Vienna Royale.

And Lloyd was confident she had got there on the line, despite the Doomben crowd holding their breath for what seemed like an eternity before the decision came through.

‘’The only chance I had was right on the line because a stride before and a stride after, I was behind,’’ Lloyd said,

‘’But I thought she got her head down and won. It was a tough performance because Pinch River looked like he was going to storm past her.’’
