Moody Jumps on the Sepoy Bandwagon
Champion trainer Peter Moody jumped aboard the Sepoy bandwagon when paying $520,000 for a lovely bay colt by the Golden Slipper winner consigned by Segenhoe Thoroughbreds on behalf of Fairway Thoroughbreds.
He is the first foal of blue-blooded Group I winning Redoute’s Choice mare Florentina, a half-sister to Group I winner Gathering from the family of Redoute’s Choice and numerous other Group I stars.
“Sepoy was a champion two year-old and champion racehorse and the dam of this colt had tremendous ability,” Moody told Sky Racing.
“She had her issues, but could have been a lot better than her record suggests.
“We’ll get him home and see if he’s a racehorse. Big picture of course you hope to win stakes races and have a stallion prospect, but first we’ll worry about winning a maiden.”
Moody knows only too well the vagaries of training expensive yearlings with high expectations having taken home the sale-topper from the Gold Coast in 2011 for $1,150,000.
A colt by Redoute’s Choice from Sunday Joy, the half-brother to champion mare More Joyous was named Laughing Lad and now as a five year-old gelding with eight starts under his belt is still yet to win a race.
Demand for the progeny of Darley based Sepoy has been a spectacular feature of the sale so far and there are still some outstanding types to come, so that particular show is far from over!
