Rare opportunity to invest in Segenhoe’s quality mare pool

Perennial Hunter Valley-based breeder and vendor Segenhoe Stud, will line-up all of their allotted mares for sale between the Chairman’s Sale on 8 May and the Australian Broodmare Sale on 10 May.

“We originally had nine mares entered in the Broodmare Sale but have now decided to consolidate our sales forum and have an additional 12 mares entered in the supplementary catalogue,” commented Peter O’Brien.

With a string of sales records achieved over the years, the quality of mares catalogued in the Chairman’s Sale reflects the strength of their accessible bloodlines.

Between the eight mares catalogued, five are stakes winners including Group 2 ATC Light Fingers Stakes winner Adrift (Zabeel), Group 3 winner in Ireland Radharcnafarraige (Distorted Humor), Group 3 Gold Coast Guineas winner Florentina (Redoute’s Choice), Group 3 VRC Ottawa Stakes winner Bella Rosa (Snitzel) and Listed winner Peron (Husson).

Winning mare Unassailed (Fastnet Rock), the daughter of stakes performer Park Esteem and half-sister to stakes winners Great Esteem and High Esteem, was a million-dollar yearling herself, showcasing her outstanding class.

Unassailed is in foal to record-setting sire I Am Invincible, while other covers throughout the Segenhoe draft include profound juvenile stakes producer Exceed and Excel, Invincible Spirit’s rising star son Kingman, and exciting young stallions Justify, Trapeze Artist and Segenhoe-raised Merchant Navy.

While the entire group of mares have pedigrees littered in black-type, a standout is Solar Cry (Street Cry) is a half-sister to Champion 3YO Filly and three-time Group 1 winner Sunlight (Zoustar).

Outside of the stellar Chairman’s offering, Segenhoe will present a further 21 mares for sale at the Broodmare Sale two days later.

“This will be an extraordinary opportunity for buyers,” O’Brien said.

“Without doubt, never before have we presented such a quality group of mares. I encourage everyone to look further than the catalogued horses as there are diamonds to be found in the supplementary session,” he added.

There are four Group winners amongst the draft including Group 2 winner My Chicharita (Towkay) in foal to Encosta de Lago’s precocious son Rubick, Group 2-winning American mare Buckleupbuttercup (Najran) in foal to hot young stallion Deep Field, Group 3 winner Fitocracy (Denman) in foal to Fastnet Rock’s Group 1-winning son Merchant Navy, and Group 3 winner Koonoomoo (Dubleo) in foal to Triple Crown winner Justify.

While these mares have performed on the track themselves, their siblings and progeny are also making a mark.

A $900,000 yearling, Apprise (Redoute’s Choice) is a half-sister to exciting up-and-comer in Hong Kong Californiadeepshot (Deep Field), with her Sebring yearling Shaik fetching $340,000 in the sale ring, while Group 1 performer Sensibility (Redoute’s Choice) is from the magnificent Fleet Lady family and her first two foals to the track are already winners.

Young import mare Prana (Sivouni) is a half-sister to Melbourne Cup winner Protectionist (Monsun) and was carefully mated on type and pedigree to Champion 3YO Colt and Miler So You Think, while stakes performer Electric Dreams (Redoute’s Choice) is the dam of Group 3 winner Broadband (Sebring) and is in foal to Group 1 producer Dundeel making the resulting foal a three-quarter-sibling to Group 1 winner Yourdeel.

Electric Dreams has already proven she can throw a quality type and her I Am Invincible yearling Supercharge sold for $1.9 million.

In addition, this draft of mares is also carrying services to the likes of Hellbent, Invader, Saxon Warrior, Shalaa, Star Witness and Vancouver.
