Segenhoe Raised 2 Year Olds Continue To Impress
An impressive win on debut by So You Think filly, Intrinsic on Tuesday at Wyong added to the tally of recent juvenile success for raised and bred Segenhoe 2 year olds.
Ridden by Hugh Bowman, the filly jumped awkwardly from the gates, but was able to secure the race by ¾ length, even though racing greenly over the concluding stages.
Retained to race by her breeders Brian and Pat Ireland, and Scott Murray, and reared at Segenhoe, Intrinsic (pictured as a yearling on the farm above) is a full sister to handy winner Too Fast for Love and is the fourth winner from four foals to race from former smart mare and farm resident Vecchia Roma.
Raised and bred 2 year olds from Segenhoe have had a string of success during the current season with a number of juvenile winners from only a small crop of foals raised on the farm that year. Amongst the winners, Segenhoe graduates; Madeenaty, Merchant Navy, Taking Aim, and Villa Carlotta have also all secured Black Type success.
Exceed And Excel filly, Madeenaty kicked off her career by winning the Listed Maribyrnong Trial in Flemington, before securing the 2yo Magic Million feature at Wyong late last year. The filly out of multiple Stakes-Winning mare Set For Fame, was sold through the Segenhoe draft for $775,000 at the Magic Millions Gold Coast Yearling Sale and has also placed in stakes races on 3 other occasions.
Unbeaten 2yo Fastnet Rock colt, Merchant Navy has now had three starts for as many impressive wins, including the Listed Anzac Day Stakes in Flemington. Foaled and raised at Segenhoe, the colt is one of six winners from the Group 3 Winner, Legally Bay.
Stakes placed on his third ever start, Choisir colt, Taking Aim, also secured black type victory when taking out the Group 3 Ken Russell in the Gold Coast earlier this month. A maiden prior to the event, he put in a tenacious effort to run to the line and hold off his rivals. He will be set for the Group 2, Sires’ Produce Stakes later this month.
Villa Carlotta is another exciting prospect this season. Breaking her maiden on debut, the Street Cry filly out of Group 3 Gold Coast Guineas winner, Florentina then went on to place in the Group 2 Reisling Stakes at her second start.
Other up and coming 2 year olds that have broken their maiden in style this season include, Legal Girl (Star Witness x La Fantastique) a winner at Wyong at her third start and Akheron (Fastnet Rock x Gambei) who won impressively on debut.
