Segenhoe Raised 2 Year Olds On Fire In Ascot
An impressive debut by Segenhoe raised 2 year olds Akheron & runner up Monsoon made it a farm quinella in Ascot today.
Champion Sire Fastnet Rock is having a great run with his two year-olds this year and this debut winner at Ascot is his tenth juvenile winner of the season.
The Simon Miller trained colt Akheron opened his account with an easy length victory in the 1200 metre maiden over Street Cry (IRE) gelding Monsoon, who is interestingly related to the winner.
Retained to race by his breeders after passing in at the Inglis Australian Easter Yearling Sale when consigned by Segenhoe Stud, Akheron (pictured as a yearling) is a half-brother to stakes-winner Reprisal and three other stakes-placed horses being the fifth winner and final foal from good producer Gambei, who died last year.
One of those stakes horses from Gambei is Europa Point, who is the dam of the runner-up Monsoon.
A four time winner in Perth, Gambei is a half-sister by Dehere (USA) to Group I winner Special Harmony, Group II winner King Canute and stakes-winner Redwoldt being from the super producing Group III winner Marooned Lady.
Monsoon also has a very exciting sister in Reveille (also raised at Segenhoe) who has two wins and two seconds from her first four starts.
Fastnet Rock has enjoyed much success with his juveniles this year including Group I winner Catchy, Group II winner Shoals, Group III winner Formality and unbeaten stakes-winner Merchant Navy.
