Spurs And Sashes a first for new partnership
With the half-neck victory by four-year-old Spurs And Sashes on Saturday, October 5 at the Gold Coast, a new winning partnership was formed between Segenhoe Stud at the Gold Coast-based Toby Edmonds.
Having her third start for her new trainer, Spurs And Sashes was a half-length second at her first run for the stable before a third placed effort.
A graduate of the 2011 Inglis Easter Yearling Sale, Spurs And Sashes is by Arrowfield Stud’s Champion sire Flying Spur, out of Royal Academy’s Group Three Mannerism Stakes winner Royal Sash.
A half-sister to the Group Three National Stakes winner Vivi Veloce and the stakes placed Just Been Lucky, Royal Sash is one of three winners for her dam, who is in turn out of the Southern Appeal mare Flurry’s Gem, a stakes placed half-sister to Madame Flurry, whose Good Journey six-year-old Happy Trails recorded his second Group One victory earlier in the day when winning the Turnbull Stakes at Flemington. Interesting to note that Happy Trails was foaled at Segenhoe Stud.
Ridden by Matthew Palmer, the mare jumped away well and went forward, but was unfortunately trapped wide throughout, but still had the audacity over the 1400m of the PCYC Ashmore Handicap to stick her head down when it mattered, recording her second career victory.
