Bill Mitchell

Bill is responsible for the racing portfolio of the Segenhoe business. Working closely with the staff at the farm, Bill ensures the thoroughbreds are in shape for racing, along with nominating horses for specific races throughout Australia, New Zealand, Singapore and Hong Kong. Bill is also responsible for managing the trainers that work with Segenhoe.

Bill grew up on his parents’ Yarraman Park Stud at Scone. He was a well-respected horse trainer in Australia from 1983 until 2006 when he retired from the training industry.
Prior to taking his licence Bill spent five years working for trainers overseas and in Australia including Neville Begg, Fulke Johnson Houghton (UK) and Neil Drysdale (USA).
Bill trained Group 1 winners including From The Planet, Stylish Century, Electrique, Aragen, General Nediym, Kenwood Melody, Dignity Dancer and Akhenaton. He also trained other stakes winners including Let’s Hurry, Livistona Lane, Social Rule, Monet’s Cove, Rapan Boy, Welsh Miner, Snippet’s Lass, Tricove, Dipping, Zalinda, Hysterical, Kalamarco and On Kylie’s Run.

After he retired from working as a trainer, Bill worked as a bloodstock consultant until accepting the Racing Manager role at Segenhoe in May 2011.
