Totally in control

Racing in the Ngongitaha Landscape Maiden over 1560m at Arawa Park, Segenhoe Stud’s stakes placed daughter of Kheleyf produced the goods, winning by three lengths.

Trained by Trans-Tasman trainer Michael Moroney, the three-year-old Total Response, who started favourite, jumped away well in the six horses field and went back to settle in second last position.

Slightly over racing during the run when she got on the heels of the runner in front, the filly drifted back to last, but once the field reached the home turn, she set out after the leader Hannah Mary who had skipped clear.

Knuckling down well over the final stages, the winning margin of three lengths suggest that there is more to come from the filly as she progresses through her current campaign and even next Autumn once she has matured a little further.

Purchased from the 2012 New Zealand Select Yearling Sale for $65,000, Total Response (pictured below as a yearling) is out of the Sadler’s Wells mare Incommunicado, a sister to the dam of Group Two-winning, Group One placed Irresistible Jewel and the Listed winner Diamond Trim, Total Response is a half-sister to the dam of Group Three Winter Cup winner Art Beat and the stakes placed Smartly and Perfect Start.

Stakes placed on her career debut, this promising filly has a very impressive pedigree that includes G1 performers Profound Beauty, Mad About You, Princess Highway, Royal Diamond and Aptostar.
