Voodoo Lad confirms favouritism for Country Championship Final
PROMISING sprinter Voodoo Lad booked his ticket to Randwick and the shot at big prizemoney in the Country Championships Final after a strong win at Tamworth on Thursday.
Voodoo Lad took on older horses in the $100,000 heat and was simply too good for his rivals, comfortably defeating Tarangower.
Both horses have now qualified for the Final at Royal Randwick on April 4, day one of The Championships. It was an impressive return to winning form by Voodoo Lad after he was beaten into second place as favourite at Wyong and Scone.
“Voodoo Lad is a really good horse,’’ trainer Rod Northam said. “We have been behind the eight-ball every run this preparation but he will go to Randwick at his fourth run back and be cheery ripe for the race.
“He is a really good horse and will improve off this run. He is ready to take on the better horses at Randwick.’’
Voodoo Lad improved his record to four wins (and three seconds) from just seven starts, taking his prizemoney to over $170,000.
Voodoo Lad won the Scone Challenge in May last year as a two-year-old underpinning his ability and was spelled to get ready for The Championships. “We’ve aimed toward this race for months and fitness-wise he will peak for Randwick,’’ Northam said.
