Another day..another winner..
Having recorded three winners in the past two days with Martilago on Friday and a stakes double on Saturday with Ninth Legion and Whistling Dixie, the Segenhoe bandwagon headed west on Sunday to Hawkesbury.
While he may have shown greenness during the run, it was the manner in which three-year-old Centre Pivot won on Sunday that has stamped the colt as one to watch.
Nominated for the $1 million Magic Millions 3yo Guineas on January 11, the John O’Shea-trained More Than Ready colt broke his maiden at Hawkesbury by an impressive two-and-a-half-length margin over the 1400m, the same distance as the race at the Gold Coast.
Starting a short priced favourite based on a handy second on debut two weeks prior, the James McDonald-ridden colt skipped clear on the home turn to defeat the Gerry Harvey-owned Amaliehaven, who is also a part owner of Centre Pivot, a colt he bred.
Secured from the draft of Baramul Stud at the 2012 Magic Millions Yearling Sale for $360,000, the colt is out of the winning Zabeel mare Waterwise, herself a daughter of the Danehill mare Sprinkler, a sister to Group One Golden Slipper winner Catbird, the Group Two winner Danbird, and Coat, the dam of Group Three-winning, Group One placed Pillar Of Hercules.
Waterwise is the dam of three to race, for three winners highlighted by the multiple stakes placed Hussonet mare Slow The Flow.
In what could prove a nice for reference, the field that Centre Pivot (pictured above and below) defeated with ease contained many well-bred three-year-olds.
