Mining for gold…
Patience and time are two things that are often needed in racing, and a four-year-old mare having her first career start is not often something you see all the time, but the Segenhoe Stud-owned Mining Tycoon made her debut on Wednesday, January 8 at Eagle Farm for trainer Toby Edmonds and recorded a very classy victory.
Contesting the XXXX Gold Maiden Handicap over 1200m, the blue-blooded Redoute’s Choice mare was heading to the track off a four length barrier trial victory at the Gold Coast.
A graduate of the Tyreel Stud draft at the Inglis Easter Yearling Sale, Mining Tycoon is out of Last Tycoon mare Tycoon Joy, a half-sister to the Group Two winner Light Up The World, as well as to the dams of Group One winner Thorn Park and to this season’s Group Two winner Rain Drum.
A half-sister to the Group One TJ Smith, Group One All-Aged Stakes and Group One BTC Cup winner Bentley Biscuit, Mining Tycoon was able to overcome what was almost an impossible task as the mare settled well back in the field and had to make up many lengths in the run.
Lengthening stride when clear galloping room presented her, the mare took the race by a narrow, but decisive long neck margin.
An extremely value mare due to her residual as a broodmare prospect, and further successful for Mining Tycoon is only going to heighten her pedigree.
