Brulee On Trial For Melb Spring Carnival At Goulburn
Progressive filly Brulee will be on trial for a trip to Melbourne for the spring carnival when she lines up at Goulburn on Sunday.
Owned by Segenhoe Stud and trained by Peter Robl, Brulee resumes from an 85-day spell in the Groovy Baby Class 3 Hcp (1000m). Randwick based Robl’s decision to send the three-year-old filly to Goulburn is a credit to the club.
“She can have the float trip down there, race on a good track and have a good blow out for the day,” Robl said. “We just thought that was a better option for her rather than trial her again.”
Robl has a good opinion of Brulee, a daughter of Hinchinbrook out of the Lonhro mare, Custard, bred by Segenhoe.
“She’s been a progressive filly as a two-year-old to the point where she probably should have won a Listed event,” Robl said. “Everything will be confirmed after Sunday but if she comes through as expected she’ll head down to Melbourne for some nice Listed and Group Three races.”
In her first preparation, Brulee won her maiden at Hawkesbury before finishing 3.6 lengths seventh to Calliope in the Group Two Magic Night Stakes at Rosehill when she was slowly away.
The filly was then given a 63-day break and raced well at Scone (metropolitan meeting) and Rosehill before being shipped to Brisbane where she was narrowly beaten by Cellarman in a 1400m 2YO Plate event at Eagle Farm on June 25. Rider (Jim Byrne) protested against the winner but it was dismissed.
Brulee had an easy trial at Randwick on September 5: “It was an easy trial. Just a day out,” Robl said.
“She’s come through it well and done terrific at home. She’s not a real big filly, only lightly-framed but she’s a neat type who doesn’t carry a lot of excess condition. Sunday will tell us a lot as to where she’s at.”
