Ross Watson
Ross is recognised as Australia’s leading equine pasture agronomist based in Scone, the Horse Capital of Australia.
Ross has over 30 years of professional pasture agronomy experience and has been consulting on pastures with Segenhoe for over 20 years.
Ross’s current major farm and pasture development project is the redevelopment of Segenhoe’s main farm area, the new Fairlight Training Centre. Ross has been engaged by Segenhoe to transform this once large vineyard to high-quality improved pastures that will support horse-breeding operations.
“It will become one of the best stud farms in the Upper Hunter”, he stated.
The Hunter Valley is a unique environment that can support some of the best quality pastures and horses in Australia. Most of Australia best racehorses are born and raised on pastures that Ross develops and manages.
“One thing most people don’t know about me is that, along with my wife Shirley, my son Benn and daughter Adelaide, we share a strong love of horses. We are very active members of the National Cutting Horse Association (NCHA) in Australia. We breed and compete with our Quarter Horses in the exhilarating equine sport of “Cutting”.
In addition, we are committed to making arena surfaces for equine sports in Australia like Cutting, Rodeo, Dressage, Reining, etc., to a world standard. So in 2012, we imported the first and only Kiser Dragmaster in Australia, the world’s most sophisticated arena preparation machine from the USA, to professionally service equine sport arenas and sand-based racetracks. This business is called Perfect Arena. For us, it’s all about the horse!”
