Breakfast In Bed brings up fifth win
Fresh from a three week break, and having her first start of 2104, the David Vandyke-trained Breakfast In Bed headed to Royal Randwick on Saturday and proved too tough, winning her fifth career start.
Starting the race favourite over the 1400m of the Australian Turf Club Benchmark 80, the four-year-old Hussonet mare jumped away well from the outside gate and went forward to sit behind the race leader Our Cellardoor.
As they rounded the home turn, jockey Jay Ford set out after the leader and at the 200m mark Breakfast In Bed hit the lead.
Holding off the late charge of the Guy Walter-trained Pillow Talk, Breakfast In Bed’s victory is her fifth from 16 starts with a further five placed efforts.
Out of the Sunday Silence mare Bella Sunday, a half-sister to Not A Single Doubt, Hanky Panky (dam of Come Hither and Fun In Flight) and Natural Is My Name (dam of Zizou), Breakfast In Bed is one of three winners for four to race from the mare.
This is also the pedigree of Group One winners Snippets, Rewaaya and Forensics, as well as Mushreq, a recent stakes winner in Dubai.
