Game Thief breaks maiden
Four-year-old Bernardini gelding Game Thief, who has been described by Malua Racing’s Troy Corstens as a “lovely horse that has had some issues in the past,” broke his maiden at Sale on Saturday, January 25 in emphatic fashion.
Having only his sixth career start, the Segenhoe Stud-owned grey gelding settled in a mid-field position for jockey Jake Noonan before he pulled the John Sadler-trainee out as they rounded the home turn.
One of the widest on the turn, the grey bounded down the home straight to pull away from his opposition to record a three-and-three-quarter length victory over Maximum Overdrive, with a further one-and-a-quarter lengths back to the third placed Flametree Of Thika, herself a full-sister to Group One winners Gondokoro and Zabeelionaire.
Secured from Session Two at the Inglis Easter Yearling Sale from the draft of Almavale Stud by John O’Shea Racing, Game Thief was initially trained at Randwick by O’Shea, before being transferred to the Melbourne stable of Sadler, where he has produced some good efforts before breaking his maiden at Sale.
